This short video(4.5 minutes) is from the TED2008 conference and gives us an amazing albeit scary look at how absolutely full of crap our current news media is. Take a look I think you’ll be quite surprised as I was.
Those of you who are thinking “Well, HA! Jason I get my news from Google” or some other online news outlet you’re gonna love the last minute or so of this video. Basically the whole premise boils down to it is cheaper to cover Britney Spears then put news headquarters in third world countries.
Why am I writing about this? Well I guess you could say this is something that keeps me up at night. Our country is deeply under feed when it comes to world news and the tidbits we get are picked and chosen for us. It’s one of the reasons I decided to start blogging here and in general. We have to start learning about whats going on around the world because as Thomas L. Friedman says, “The world is flat” by that I believe he means we’re absolutely connected and things that happen in other countries they don’t take long to have an effect on us.

I’ve never knew how powerful mushrooms were until this video by Paul Stamets at TED 2008. I mean I’ve heard they’ve found that some mushrooms or even some bacteria will eat away nuclear waste, but besides that these life forms can actually help reverse some of the damage we’ve done to the planet. They’ve actually got a lot more to do with life in the forest then we previously knew and with that knowledge I think regeneration can happen a lot faster and easier then before.

Jay Leno’s green renovation of his garage has come a long way. He’s added some new parts washers, replaced some aerosol cans and big solar array. Leno even talks about adding more solar panels even though he generates more power then the garage needs to operate during the day.

Dr. Ernest Madu runs the Heart Institute of the Caribbean and has built the institute with open standards, smart design and great technical choices. They run the Heart Institute at 1/10th the cost of what similar facilities run in the United States and best of all they don’t turn anyone away. Dr. Madu welcomes those at TED and I’m sure anyone watching with the means to follow him to Africa to continue building facilities like these.
This man and his group of outside of the box thinkers are going to create great change. I cannot wait to see what they do in Africa for the people who so deserve it.

Excellent video and this is the lady from the 11th Hour that talked about biomimicry. She was so good on that and again here. I just love her messages!
