I take more pains to drive less, but besides that I'd already put a lot of energy-saving and gas-saving strategies into practice.

I recommend learning some hypermiling techniques. They don't just save you money; they're fun and challenging.

John Hunter: Great John that's a great way to save energy by adding a shade tree to keep the house cool on the sunny side. That's great taking the bus in Austin we used it quite a bit. Thanks for sharing John I really appreciate hearing stories of people who having been living green before it was the cool thing to do.

Evita: Yeah a lot of people are stuck right now with cars and trucks they wish they didn't have. The working online thing will defiantly help with travel costs.

Well there is not much I can do at this time as I have to travel 35km one way to work each day and there is no chance of carpooling. I am trying to relocate closer and big dream is also to work online...we'll see how that develops over the next few months, years...

But I would not get a big, gas guzzling car ever, and whether gas prices are up or down I never drive around frivolously or idle the car.

Next car I buy though will definitely run on something alternative.

Nope. I was already taking sensible steps. I don't drive to work I take the metro (and work from home some day every week). I use energy efficient light bulbs. When replacing my furnace several years ago I got a very high efficiency one. I planted trees so they shade the house from the sun during the summer...
