Konarka uses inkjets to print solar film

In 2005, Popular Mechanics gave Konarka Technologies an award for being one of the years top innovators. Konarka Technologies was honored by PM for its flexible solar film called Power Plastic. At that time they were manufacturing Power Plastic through proprietary means of printing. In March 2008 though they announced that they have successfully printed their solar film using an ink jet solution. That’s amazing not only did they cut down the cost of manufacturing they’ve essential created a simple and easy way to meet customer demands on custom orders.

The options are endless really and at the moment Konarka is planning on getting multiple forms of its product out by 2009 at the latest. They’re currently working with the United States Green Building Council LEED designers on some custom designed solutions.

Personally I can’t wait to see what they come up with. What kind of things would you do if you could print solar films using inkjet printer technology?

Wow. This has limitless application. This is the type of innovation that will spark the next BIG green revolution. Options such as this enable us to easily switch our lifestyles, even expand them. Very good Find Jason.
