Earth Day as many if not all of you know by now falls on April 22nd every year. I hope you will take some time out for the environment on Earth Day. Many companies are releasing information on Earth Day about green initiatives and programs that they’re putting in place to lower their carbon footprint. . Here are a few of those companies and what they’re doing:
- Timberland has announce that they’ve made global commitments with over 300 communities to plant 1 million trees by 2010. On Earth Day 2008 alone they will complete 160 greening projects in 27 countries with the help of some 2,100 Timberland volunteers and 7,200 recruited volunteers who will put in a total of about 60,000 work hours.
- Miles Electric Vehicles has announced that Jagjeet Singh Chahal a student at Ball State University won the MILES Revolution Video Contest. Miles Electric Vehicles will be donating a MILES ZX40S Advanced Design to Ball State and Chahal will be receiving a $1000 scholarship.
- American Electric Power is one of the largest electric utility companies in the United States. Today on Earth Day they announced their order of 18 International DuraStar Hybrid diesel hybrids bringing their fleet of hybrids up to 22.
- Moishe’ s Moving and Storage Systems has announced that they are going going green. This make them the first green moving company on the east coast. Moishe is setting up a community box exchange, implementing a paperless billing system, transitioning their trucks to bio-diesel and will be using biodegradable pellets made from recycled diapers instead of Styrofoam packing peanuts.
- JPMorgan Chase will be reducing their carbon emissions by 20% using their 2005 baseline by implementing energy saving techniques. They will also be offsetting 100% of employee air travel.
