No, really I’m interested in hearing if and what you’ve done to make your life more eco-friendly. If you’ve done nothing I’d like to hear that too. I just find it interesting hearing the what, whys and hows of going green. If you’d like to tell me by email you can do that with the contact form or you can leave me a comment here and join the conversation that’d be great.
Here is what we’ve done in our house so far: We have replaced through the year about 95% of our lights with CFL bulbs and in places where we replaced regular bulbs that were still good we’ve saved them incase of emergency. We have lowered the thermostat on the water heater to 120 as we found it came from Home Depot set at 160 (ouch). The TV’s and satellite boxes are all hooked to power strips so when not in use we just flip the switch and all the power is gone. All of our cleaning supplies have gone all natural and it’s a lovely thing sometimes it seems maybe a little more elbow grease is needed on tough things, but it works and elbow grease is free. Our city started a recycle program where we get 2 90 gallon trash bins one for recycle and one for trash. The recycle bin has been full or 3/4th full while the trash can usually has about 1 bag in it.
Why did we go green? Why not really, it has taken almost no effort and barely any money to lower our impact on the world. I live in San Antonio, Texas and last month was pretty warm, but our electricity bill in a 2400 sqft house was $110. That can be improved, but that’s the lowest for that month as it’s ever been. Basically, you can lower your impact on the world with just a few steps and at the same time save a decent amount of money. It’s a great thing to do for a greater cause and I think that everyone should do it.
So, if you have time join the conversation and let me and the other readers know what you’ve done to go green.

Darn it, I just realized that I haven’t really done anything to go green.

I started to use reusable bags for when we shop or get groceries. Just remember to put them back in your car!

Thats a great start Walter those plastic bags are nasty and hardly ever end up in the right place once people get rid of them. If you don’t mind could you tell me where you got your reusable bags? Thanks for sharing with us!

Going green is an important crisis facing the world today. I have just begun carpooling and cutting down on trips. This does not sound like much…. but if each person in the US would cut driving down by 20% or more look at the benifits produced. Better air quality, Reduced wasteful byproduct such as radiater coolet, used oil, brake fluid and batteries. This would lower gas prices and save the enviroment.

You’re absolutely right and I think it’s a great step in the right direction. If everyone started doing steps like these and any of the many others. We could put a dent in this thing as citizens. Big business is who I think will give us a big bang for the buck when it comes to changing the ways they waste

I been trying to change my lifestyle. I recently purchased a compost bin and been throwing anything organic into it. But one of the easiest way to go green is to drive less. If you need to drive do it all at once. Go to more convenient locations where everything can be done at once. This saves our ozone and keeps the air clean.

Green Home Improvements (Check me out!)

I’ll run out of room if I leave a complete list but here are a few changes: light bulbs, organic fertilizer, solar outdoors light, green shopping totes, fax by e-mail (saves trees and toner), recycle, gardening, energy efficient doors and windows.

Green Home Improvements: Great job! I’ll have a green shopping totes tutorial coming soon by Chezlin. I love my eFax for fax to email is that who you use? I’m always looking for new projects and tools. I’m not surprised how much you’ve done I’ve checked out your site a few times and really enjoy it.

Well as Green Home Improvements said, I too do not want to leave you an article as a comment LOL - so I will just name a few things:
- Recycle religiously!
- Compost all food scraps, etc
- Stopped using plastic containers and bottles (no more bottled water too)
- Carry reusable bags on every shopping trip
- Keep the furnace/AC at lower levels
- Eat more fresh produce and buy as little packaged food as possible
- and the list goes on…
I love doing this stuff and the best part is that it feels so good and normal. It does not feel like a chore at all, I believe everyone can feel like that too, it is all up to what one decides in their mindset! We take care of our houses since we inhabit them, why should we not do the same for our planet which we too inhabit!

I’m glad you expressed that the things you’ve done don’t feel like a chore that is something I wish everyone knew when it comes to going green the things you do don’t have to and usually don’t feel like a burden. In fact they can save you a good amount of money, time and health problems.
Haha, thanks for not leaving a new article in the comment box. You’ve done a great many things more then what you’ve left here and even if you hadn’t you’re making a difference and that’s awesome. Thank you for sharing.
