Every year spring comes a bit faster and then summers follows a little faster then the year before. I’ll be saving the doom and gloom for another post. I’m here to talk about having fun and throwing parties. Spring is a beautiful time of year everything is in bloom, the birds are chirping, and the bees are buzzing. It’s the perfect time to have friends over for a feast or for a swim if you live somewhere warm like I do. I’m going to share with you a few ways to green up these get togethers.
- Use evite or your email address book to invite your friends and family over. No need to waste paper these days on invitations everyones going to toss out anyway.
- Encourage friends and family to ride together to the party. It will save them gas money and it will be easier to find everyone a sober ride home afterwards.
- Use reusable, washable utensils and dishes if you can. Throwing out or recycling all those dirty plates and forks is a waste of energy. Just fill up the dishwasher and give your dishes a wash, but for maximum energy savings make sure the dishwasher is on air dry.
- Put out 2 bins one for food and one for the recyclables if you’re gonna have any. Depending on what you serve the food can be tossed in your compost pile and the other waste can most likely be recycled.
- Use compact florescent lights to light up your evening event. They don’t burn as hot so they don’t add as much heat to the crowd and they save energy.
- Use cloth place mats and table runners to dress up tables. Easy to just pick up and toss in the washing machine. Be sure to hang them outside to dry for the best energy savings.
- Serve locally grown organic fruits, veggies and meats they will be huge hits at parties. Be sure to head down to your local farmers market and place an order with your local growers to be sure you get the food you’re looking for.
- Organic beers and wine taste really good and depending on where you live you could be helping out a local vineyard or brewery. Try new local brands if they’re available you might be pleasantly surprised.
Green parties are a great way to get to know your friends a little bit better and introduce those who haven’t yet mad the steps to become environmentally friendly to some earth friendly products. Great post! I don’t have any idea’s for green parties but everyone who reads should get some great idea’s for themselves.

At each party, I’d suggest doing something permanent to help the environment long after the party is over. Planting a tree, or installing a bird feeder would be good activities.
