Over the next 3 years Al Gore’s new Alliance of Climate Protection’s campaign will spend $300 million dollars in an effort to bring awareness to our environmental problem.  The Alliance of Climate Protections campaign also called "We" will combine online organizing, partnerships with grassroots groups and advertising to educate the public and bring a sense of urgency to the suits in the government.

The group is working with big names in its advertising campaign to get the awareness out that the environment is a bi-partisan issue.  They are also working with groups like the Girl Scouts of America which consists of 2.7 million members and will be taking a pledge to help the environment.  The alliance will provide the Girl Scouts with kits with ideas on how they can create change in their own neighborhoods.

The best part about it is that Al Gore is putting up part of the $300 million that the alliance will be spending over the next 3 years.  He will be using his $750,000 share from the Nobel Peace Prize, all the profits from the book and movie "The Inconvenient Truth" and he’ll use his salary from venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers.

"The options available to civilization worldwide to avert this terribly destructive pattern are beginning to slip away from us," Gore said. "The path for recovery runs right through Washington."

This is a great because some people think Al Gore jumped on the bandwagon to make money off of the green movement without looking into his past.  Putting those profits to use in the environmental arena is a great way to prove to those skeptics that he really cares about the environment.  I’ve had no doubt that this man for years has been a great voice for the environment and I’m glad he’s gotten so much publicity about his efforts these days.

    Jason,

It is wonderful to believe that celebrities and politicians have in their hearts what is best for the world, but even after things like this I have a hard time buying it. If Gore where to spend this money putting economic friendly practices into action it would be much better spent. His advertising campaign and appearances (which he will fly to get to) will probably waste more energy in the short time that it is run than any normal person would use in a year.
