You’d think that those who make the trip to trek up Mount Everest would want to leave it pristine and beautiful.  That doesn’t seem to be the case though as a Nepali airline just finished hauling out 17 tons of trash in the form of beer bottles, plastic packets and cans.  I was under the impression that going on this trek was about the beauty of your surroundings and the amazing views on the small trails on the way up the base of the mountain.  Those are the trails that were littered with trash from trekkers who couldn’t be bothered to keep trash to themselves so the group behind them didn’t have to see it.  I’m glad that the private airlines took it upon themselves to do the cleaning, but I’m also saddened by that fact.  If you hike, trek, bike or run through an area at least leave it looking as good as it was when you got to witness it.This voluntary effort on the part of this airlines has gotten locals in the Lukla resort area to start collecting the bottles and will take them to the nearby airport named after Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa who were the first to climb Mount Everest in 1953.  The bottles will then be taken to local breweries to be recycled and reused instead of deposited in a landfill.
