After the last post I wrote I wanted to share with everyone my experience with Kiva so far and let me tell you the feeling of being able to help a person directly is an amazingly powerful feeling. Our Kiva entrepreneur Genoveva Vasquez Ruiz was fully funded today. She was asking for only $525 to buy a new assortment of fabric and thread for her seamstress business that she started in her living room back in the year 2000. Genoveva sells custom bedspreads, blankets and covers to her local community and with this loan she will be able to increase her product line and create a better income for her family. Here is here story:
“Genoveva Vasquez Ruiz owns her own business working as a seamstress in the city of Morales, San Martin. She started the business from her living room in 2000 because she had a useful skill, wanted to take charge of her life, and did not want to rely on her husband. Now she makes and sells custom bedspreads, blankets, and covers to her neighbors, friends, and family.Genoveva is 34 years old, married and has three children. She is happy that she can work from home so that she can also take care of her children. Genoveva is proud to be a productive member of her community and a positive role model for her children. Her goal is to save enough money to send all of her children to university so they can have more opportunities in life than she had.A member of Manuela Ramos and the community bank Las Moralinas, Genoveva is requesting a loan of $525 to repay over 6 months. With the loan she would like to buy a selection of new fabrics and threads so she can offer her clients different, creative products.”
Hopefully we will here from her or the Kiva representative for that area soon. I know not everyone can spare $25 or more that Kiva has as a minimum, but if you can spare $1, $5, $10 please use the “Make a Donation” button at the bottom of this post and together we can all sponsor more entrepreneur’s all over the world and I will keep everyone up to date as Kiva keeps me upto date. Don’t forget to leave a comment or use the contact link to let me know that you’ve sent a donation. I will post a thank you post in a few weeks listing everyone who donated and if you have a website address give it to me and I’ll add it in if its appropriate.

I’m so glad you’re telling us about your personal experience with Kiva. I had this site bookmarked but hadn’t really checked it out yet. I hope you keep us updated–I’m really curious as to how this program works.

Thank you for coming by! I love your blog and my girlfriend will love it even more (she’s the creative one in this relationship).

Thank you for your kind comments!
I’ve read more of the Kiva site–fascinating! I’ll have to take a second look at my budget so I can sponsor someone too. I’ll be visiting your site to see how it turns out (and for all the other food info too, of course!).

I hope you can fit them into your budget. So far, no updates I hear it takes about a week for the money to get to the business person and the Kiva reps check back pretty often with them. I hope they correspond with me if not I’ll just have to more people to get more updates.
